Summer 2009
Training- Setter Dogs presented a bird dog training seminar in Spring 2009 at the Salina Ambucs Sport Show - Salina, Kansas. The seminar was well attended and touched on whoa, here, heel, honoring, and quartering techniques. Bird dog training is in full swing, great dogs in the kennel working on their pointing, honoring, retrieving and obedience. Let Setter Dogs know if you would like to get your pup/dog in training. Click here for a newspaper article about Setter Dogs and training. Training Tip- Make sure your hunting pup/dog, especially if the pup/dog is not gun broke, is kept out of hearing distance of fireworks during the 4th of July season.

Lots of changes, as many of you know in July of 2006 I resigned at Washburn University to pursue bird dog training on a full time basis in north central Kansas. A 30 run kennel was constructed and operational by late July 2006 and away we went with the business of training dogs. 1X NSTRA Champion Tekoa's Rising Angel- On a sad note, Angel passed away in August of 2007. She was a daughter of CH Tekoa Mountain Sunrise. Angel was a very nice bird dog and a super single wild quail finder. She was a National Shoot to Retrieve Champion, wild bird dog and guide dog. She had 6 litters and I am fortunate to have a pup out of her and NSTRA Champion Tekoa Mountain Dakota. She is buried on a hill overlooking the kennel. She is missed and thought about on a regular basis, more information and pictures can be found at http://setterdo.startlogic.com/page5.html.
I have a super set of dogs for guiding and wild bird hunting including daughters of CH Long Gone Nixon, NSTRA CH Hard Rappen Cash, Trail's End Badboy, Tekoa Mountain Outrage and a son of CH Tekoa Mountain Patriot. NSTRA Champion Shades continues to entertain interested female dogs, as well as guiding hunters and wild bird hunting with me. He is being trialed on a limited basis. For the second time in his trial career, Shades was the 2007-2008 runner up high point dog for the NSTRA Missouri/Kansas Region.
Have a great and safe July 4th holiday!
